SCI-FI epic Avatar has set a new world box office record, earning $A2.05 billion and sinking Titanic to become the highest-grossing film of all time.
James Cameron's mostly digitised movie is up for Oscar glory in February after winning best picture at the Golden Globes earlier this month.
Titanic won him best picture and 10 other Oscars at the Academy Awards in 1998.
